A 2009 publication by the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology found that the majority of people believe that their dreams reveal meaningful hidden truths. One study found that 74% of Indians, 65% of South Koreans and 56% of Americans believed their dreams provided them with meaningful insight into their unconscious desires and beliefs.

People with this Freudian perspective of dreaming give more importance to the contents of their dreams than to similar contents in conscious thoughts.
